Section 125 Qualified Benefit Employees who are covered under the employer- sponsored Group Health Insurance Plans, Delta Dental, Long Term Care, Medical Reimbursement, and Dependent Care may elect to have their portion of the premium coverage treated as a "pre-tax" salary reduction rather than a "post-tax" deduction. Section 125 of the Internal Revenue Code (the federal tax code) allows certain plans that qualify under the tax rules and regulations to offer this option to employees. The Diocese of Worcester qualifies for this option that allows you to instruct us to reduce your salary compensation by the amount needed to pay your portion of the premium (individual or family plan) for Group Health Insurance and Delta Dental coverage. Because your compensation will be reduced before being paid to you, no federal income tax or state tax is applicable to the portion of the premium paid by your salary reduction. Depending on your personal federal and state tax bracket, this may have the effect of reducing your "net" cost for coverage by 10% to 38%.
