Bishop McManus announces new assignments to begin this summer
June 7, 2018, WORCESTER, MA –Most Rev. Robert J. McManus, Bishop of the Diocese of Worcester, has announced the appointment of three parish administrators, five associate pastors and a transitional deacon. Three new priests will be ordained on June 23 at the Cathedral of St. Paul. The bishop has also announced the assignment of three priests to specialized ministries, the retirement of four priests, and his approval of assignments for Augustinians of the Assumption.
Unless otherwise noted, the assignments are effective July 1, 2018.
Rev. Eric K. Asante who has been associate pastor at St. Cecilia Parish, Leominster will be the administrator of Sacred Heart-St. Catherine of Sweden Parish, Worcester.
Rev. Juan D. Escudero, currently the associate pastor at St. Mary Parish, Shrewsbury will be administrator of St. Denis Parish, E. Douglas.
Rev. Daniel E. Moreno, associate pastor at St. Augustine Parish, Millville and Good Shepherd Parish, Linwood will be administrator of St. Anthony of Padua Parish, Dudley.
Rev. Miguel A. Pagán, who has been a chaplain at St. Vincent Hospital, Worcester will be associate pastor at St. Cecilia Parish, Leominster.
Rev. Juan D. Echavarria, who has completed his studies in Canon Law in Rome will be associate pastor at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish at Our Lady of Loreto Church, Worcester, and Defender of the Bond in the Marriage Tribunal.
Rev. Stephen M. Gemme, who has been providing sacramental ministry will be a chaplain in the Department of Pastoral Care at St. Vincent Hospital, Worcester, with residence at St. Paul Cathedral.
Rev. Donato Infante III, while remaining associate pastor, St. Joseph Parish, Charlton will also serve as an associate director of Priestly Vocation Recruitment.
Rev. Dennis J. O’Brien, who had retired last year for medical reasons, will serve as minister to priests with continuing residence at St. Mary Parish, Uxbridge.
Upon ordination on June 23 at the Cathedral of St. Paul, three new priests will have their first assignments as follows
. Rev. Alan J. Martineau, will serve as summer associate pastor, St. Anne Parish, Shrewsbury before returning to graduate studies. Effective August 1,
Rev. Javier Julio will be associate pastor at St. Mary Parish, Shrewsbury and
Rev. Victor Sierra will be associate pastor at Good Shepherd Parish, Linwood and St. Augustine Parish, Millville.
Four priests will be retiring.
Rev. Ernest P. Allega, current pastor at St. Denis Parish, East Douglas;
Rev. Roger R. Boucher, currently providing priestly ministry for the Veterans Administration and serving in Campus Ministry for the Diocese of Manchester, N.H
.; Rev. James J. Caldarella, currently serving as minister to priests; and
Rev. George J. Ridick, current pastor at Sacred Heart-St. Catherine of Sweden Parish, Worcester.
Upon ordination as a Transitional Deacon,
Rev. Mr. Juan Sanchez Guzman, to diaconate ministry at Our Lady of the Lake Parish, Leominster.

Dennis Gallagher, A.A., Provincial Superior of the North American Province of the Augustinians of the Assumption, of Rev. Alex Castro, A.A. as pastor, St. Anne and St. Patrick Parish, Fiskdale, effective August 1, 2018 and Rev. John Franck, A.A., associate pastor, St. Anne and St. Patrick Parish, Fiskdale, effective mid-October, 2018.
